How Can Residents Be Active in Your Homeowner's Association?

March 23, 2021 / by HOA Manager

Do something today that your future self will thank you forEvery homeowner’s association community always seems to have a lot going on, and that can sometimes include, among other things, a range of upcoming social events in addition to several important ongoing projects. Updating the website, writing an article for the association newsletter, and committee involvement on the budget, landscaping, road maintenance, election oversight or other committees, are all ways to volunteer. What are some of the things going on in your community?

As an HOA board member, you can be instrumental in coordinating a number of projects for your community. Some examples include:

  • Planning the community-wide spring barbeque
  • Renovating the community center
  • Redesigning the common area landscaping
  • Reviewing and updating the association’s architectural guidelines
  • Creating the association’s 5-year plan

It is also important for the board to stress the importance of volunteerism from non-board members and try to get owners involved in any number of important endeavors. Homeowner’s associations seem to run smoother when owners take the initiative and interest to participate in the community. Sometimes volunteering may only entail a few hours of a member's time each month and a commitment to your neighbors. Owners within the association can volunteer to join committees or offer assistance to the board for specific association tasks.

There is a lot to be gained from volunteering time within your homeowner’s association – new friends, new skills, recognition by your neighbors – and perhaps best of all, an improved community. Whether volunteering for the board or for a committee, no good deed will go unnoticed. To express your interest in volunteering and getting involved in association activities and projects, contact your association manager or a member of the HOA board today. And don't forget, welcome to the party!
